Accommodation

We are proud to work in partnership with a variety of accommodation providers ensuring you comfortable and relaxed surroundings with great wildlife in their grounds too.

We strive to ensure our accommodation providers fulfil environmental standards and wherever possible integrate the needs of the environment with their business operations. They are also smaller more bespoke accommodation providers rather than large chain hotels or environmentally damaging constructions. You are sure to experience traditional home made food and a warm welcome.

Some of our favourites, close friends and business partners are listed below. Do feel free to ask us any questions you may have about these or any other accommodations we use on our trips.

We proudly work with David and Ivan at the delightful mountain village of Juzcar and whilst the beautiful and comfortable rooms are a delight Ivan’s award winning cooking will not fail to impress whatever your dietary needs. Furthermore the mountains surrounding the hotel offer great all year birding opportunities.

The village had been one of the traditional pueblitos blancos of Andalucía but in spring 2011, buildings in the town (including the church and gravestones) were painted smurf-blue by Sony pictures in order to create a setting for the Smurf movie.

Picca Laa Eco-lodge

Accom3

The name Picca Laa means “Birdsong” in the local dialect as it is situated next to the Tanji bird reserve in The Gambia near to the traditional fishing village of Tanji.

Picca Laa began as a shared vision between a local Gambian businessman, Paul Jallow, and his European partner but is now run as a family business by Paul’s son Alieu and his wife Kaddi who live on-site and, along with other family members, will make sure you enjoy your stay at Picca Laa.

They planned to create a simple but clean and comfortable place from which guests could explore The Gambia whilst enjoying great local cooking and relaxing in the bar with a cold beer.

From the start of the project team agreed that, as far as possible, the people of Tanji would benefit from the project and Picca Laa is staffed and managed by local people from the village. They employed local people through-out construction and have trained the lodge team to meet the standards of service expected by European visitors.

Picca Laa makes it perfect for those wanting a touch of tranquillity and Picca Laa certainly lives up to its name it is literally buzzing with bird songs and calls, every area of the grounds yield new and exciting species.
